A rookie Pasco County firefighter and new Plant City police officer rescued two autistic boys from a Zephyrhills house fire.

A Pasco County firefighter rescued a child from a Zephyrhills house fire on his fifth shift with the department.

Plant City police officer Michal Pietrusinski - who only joined the department earlier this month - was walking in the neighborhood when he saw smoke and heard a woman screaming for help. He two autistic sons were still inside the home.

Pietrusinski and his fiance took a garden hose into the home to try and douse the fire, he told Fox13News.com.

He found one of the boys in the smoke and brought him outside to safety.

Joshua Casal was dispatched to his first working with, along with Capt. Craig Harris and firefighter Timothy McCormick.

As the firefighters entered the home, they conducted a search that led them to the bathroom. Casal found the boy in the bathtub and carried him outside.

"It's kind of nerve wracking, you know? Like, what condition is he going to be in and is he going to be okay," Casal told the television station.

The boy was flown to the hospital for evaluation of smoke inhalation.
