PA Firefighters Handle Apartment Building Fire

Oct. 7, 2022
Berkeley Hills Fire Chief Ed Carlino said 10 people, including three firefighters, were transported for treatment.

A fire in an apartment complex in Ross Township resulted in eight residents and two firefighters being transported for treatment.

Ross/West View EMS Chief Greg Porter told WTAE the two firefighters were transported for heat-related issues, while six residents were taken to hospitals for smoke inhalation and/or other minor injuries sustained while trying to get out of the building.

"I know some people were brought out over ladders by firefighters," Porter said. "I know some people were brought out through the hallways in the building by firefighters."

Berkeley Hills Fire Chief Ed Carlino said every unit was affected in some way.

The fire that reached six alarms is believed to have started in the basement.

"There are more than 100 firefighters from all over Allegheny County," Porter said. "From an EMS perspective, we're at what we refer to as a Level 2 (Mass Casualty Incident), which brings ambulances from all over Allegheny County and in this case Butler County."
