FDNY firefighters responded to the American Museum of Natural History early Tuesday morning.
News 1 NY reported that the museum’s fire alarm system alerted the FDNY of smoke in the building.
Deputy Chief Nicholas Corrado told reporters that approximately 25 FDNY apparatus and 150 members rushed to the scene to find heavy smoke conditions in one room on the first floor.
The fire was placed under control within an hour.
The extent of the damage to the museum was not immediately known.
One firefighter sustained minor injuries.
Corrado said fire marshals were on scene investigating the cause of the fire.
