Sprinklers Lauded for Preventing AZ Car, Warehouse Fire from Spreading
A sprinkler system in a Phoenix warehouse is being credited for a successful outcome after a Waymo electric vehicle caught fire in the building.
The warehouse is where a lot of electric vehicles come to unload their GPS and ride data, FOX 10 reported.
The sprinklers were key because they prevented the other cars from catching fire, Phoenix firefighters said.
"These cells in a 10th of a second can heat up to 1,200 degrees, that's why it makes it so difficult to extinguish these fires," said Phoenix Fire Capt. Todd Keller.
The car now sits in essentially a dumpster, with sand and water on top of it. The car will stay here for weeks as it smolders. It might take three weeks to put the fire out.
"We may have not fought an EV fire the way we did a year ago, but we're always advancing our technology on how to extinguish these. You have to cool them down," he said.
