Memphis firefighters said the victims, all under the age of six, were found in a back bedroom.

Memphis firefighters and the community are grieving the lives of four children who perished in a fire Wednesday afternoon.

On Thursday, Memphis fire officials said the fire started between the kitchen and bedroom due to rigged wiring, WREG reported.

Patrick Davis identified his grandchildren as Marcus, Markese, Malaysia, and Makayla Walker.

“It hurt me to see my daughter hurting and it hurts me, and it’s hurting my whole family,” Davis told reporters at the scene.

A passerby who stopped to help said her boyfriend tried to enter the house and she called 9-1-1 after being told that others couldn't get through.

She also told the media: “The guy, the boyfriend, he gave me her (the mother's) Facebook name and I called her on Facebook and I asked her where she was and I told her, “Your house is on fire and your kids are still in there.”

Firefighters found a 6-year-old, a 2-year-old and two 4-year-olds, in a back bedroom during rescue operations.

The father was detained by police, but later released.
