Fire investigators are trying to determine the cause of a fire that claimed the life of a woman and injured others.
The fire Friday night started on the second floor, ABC7 reported.
Witnesses say there were several residents trapped and stuck on the fire escape.
"I was crying here, she was crying over there with the baby," Preke Vulaij told a reporter.
A tearful Vulaj says it was his 29-year-old daughter calling him crying for help as she, her husband and their 16-month-old son were stuck on the fire escape with no way out.
He raced to help but couldn't get there as FDNY firefighters were already on the scene.
Firefighters were able to pull them to safety - they are all expected to be okay.
Four people, including a one-year-old were injured.
