A routine call for a utility emergency turned into anything but for a Fairfax County firefighter.

Seconds after a firefighter opened a door, a massive blast knocked him backward, a video shared by Fairfax County Fire and Rescue shows.

Wires underground leading to the building had a fault issue, causing the fire which moved upward toward the building. When the firefighter opened the door, a rush of oxygen caused the explosion., Dominion Energy Spokesperson Peggy Fox told WUSA9.com

Fairfax County fire officials tweeted: "Thankfully, our firefighter is okay. FCFRD FFs put their lives on the line everyday to protect the lives & property of Fairfax County."
