Boston firefighters battled a six-alarm blaze in a triple-decker Saturday.
The fire in in Dorchester left 29 residents without a home and one person injured.
"It was a big concern because the houses are so close together on this street. All the back porches were fully engulfed in flames," Boston Fire Department Commissioner Paul Burke told The Boston Herald.
Burke said after the fire started in the rear area of 21 Ellington St., it quickly engulfed two full buildings. It “kept on just expanding.”
“But it was a chaotic scene for a long time. The heavy fire was difficult to knock down because there was so much fire and they were getting in tight situations. We fight these fires aggressively, internally to knock them down because once they get to the building beside them, we could lose a whole street.”
“We had to get hoses in here real quick. It’s a real tight street. And in the same process, you’re looking to make sure there’s nobody in there..."
