Wayne Township officials promise residents an open dialogue throughout the process.

Discussions that would merge Wayne Township with the Indianapolis Fire Department and Indianapolis EMS have commenced.

One of the township’s trustees has met with Indianapolis Mayor, Joe Hogsett, the leadership of IFD and IEMS, elected officials and members of the Wayne Township Board to “gauge interests and gather input,” according to a letter obtained by Fox59

The first step of the process is a resolution by township officials to merge the departments which is set to be introduced in a January board meeting.

Officials promise an open dialogue as they understand fire department mergers cause concerns and questions.

Also, Wayne Township said in the letter they are confident that the merger will contribute to “the overall effectiveness of our fire and EMS services."
