Police will not say if the fires are tied to an extortion in Edmonton where other houses have been torched.

Residents in Beaumont are concerned for their safety after a second home under construction was destroyed by fire Tuesday.

An unoccupied model home built by the same firm, Active Homes, was destroyed Dec. 14 in what the Royal Canadian Mounted Police ruled an arson, according to CityNews.

The most recent fire also damaged the house next door. There were no injuries.

Police told reporters they say they are aware of the extortion investigations in Edmonton linked to under construction homes going up in flames, but could not comment on ties.
