Crashes on MD's Bay Bridge Close Span for Hours

More than a dozen people were injured including two seriously.

Two multi-vehicle crashes closed the westbound span of the Bay Bridge Saturday for six hours.

The initial crash involved 23 vehicles while another 20 were involved in secondary crashes on the bridge that connects Maryland's eastern and western shores, WJZ reported.

The wreck left about a dozen hurt including two who suffered serious injuries.

Detours on the eastern shore sent drivers onto rural roads that brought them right back onto westbound U.S 50 that was clogged. Eventually, traffic officials sent traffic to another route around the bridge.

There was heavy fog in the area Saturday when the crashes occurred.
