A popular waterfront restaurant in Destin, Fla., erupted in flames Saturday morning in a two-alarm fire just before the lunch hour.
Destin Fire said firefighters were called to a commercial structure fire at Tailfins, 172 Harbor Blvd.
According to the department, heavy smoke and flames were already visible as crews arrived. The building’s third floor was fully engulfed.
Crews got the fire under control and several firefighters had to be transported or treated at the scene for minor injuries. No civilian injuries were reported.
The cause is currently under investigation.
Among the agencies responding were the City of Destin, Okaloosa Island Professional Firefighters, South Walton Fire District, Fort Walton Beach Fire, North Bay Fire Control District, and the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
WEAR reported that a bachelorette party with 18 attendees were nearly caught in the fire.
Alex Enders went to the bathroom, then walked out the door to be “hit by a wall of black smoke.”
" I couldn’t even see my hand if I put it two feet in front of me,” she said.
Alex’s mother, Mari, said she wasn’t sure immediately what happened to her daughter.
“I was screaming, my daughter’s in the restroom. Three servers approached us and said, we’ve got her,” she said.
