Ridgefield, NJ, Firefighter Suffers Medical Emergency at Crash Scene

A tractor-trailer crash early Friday morning in Bergen County left one person trapped and a firefighter hospitalized after the first-responder suffered a medical emergency, officials said.
Firefighters responded about 2:50 a.m. to the intersection of Broad Avenue and Maple Avenue in Ridgefield for a traffic accident with entrapment.
Crews arrived to find that a tractor-trailer had collided with two vehicles, struck utility poles, and damaged a building.
Rescuers extricated one trapped person, who was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
During the response, a firefighter suffered a medical emergency and was also hospitalized in stable condition, according to a statement from the Ridgefield Fire Department.
Emergency crews remained on scene for about four hours.
The Palisades Park Fire Department assisted at the crash site, while departments from Fairview and Cliffside Park provided mutual aid coverage for Ridgefield.
A spokesperson for the Ridgefield Police Department was not immediately available to comment on the investigation.
