Two Workers Overcome by Gas at Mobile, AL, Sewer Project

A third person, who went into the hole, managed to get out after becoming disoriented, Mobile firefighters said.

Two people are dead while another is hospitalized after an industrial accident in Mobile County.

According to the Mobile Police Department, the Mobile Fire Rescue Department responded to Princeton Woods Drive East regarding an industrial accident Monday morning.

The three contract workers were conducting a sewer project when one of the individuals went into a hole and never returned.

A second worker followed to help but never resurfaced, according to the department.

A third individual then entered the hole but was able to able to get out after becoming disoriented.

“Technical rescue teams and emergency medical personnel were ultimately able to bring the two remaining victims to the surface,” police said. “All three individuals were transported to a local hospital, but unfortunately, two were pronounced deceased.”

Police said that although the investigation is ongoing but the victims showed signs of “gas exposure.”
