Jack-knifed Rig Left Hanging from Overpass in Elmhurst, IL

The rig, loaded with plastics, veered off I-290, crashed through temporary barriers and came to rest partially on a ramp under construction.

A jack-knifed semi-truck tractor was hanging from an Eisenhower Expressway overpass on eastbound I-290 overnight, Illinois State Police said.

Shortly before 3 a.m., police responded to I-290 at St. Charles Road where a semi-truck tractor lost control, crashed through temporary concrete barriers and stopped on a new, unfinished portion of the roadway, police said. The accident happened in the western suburbs of Berkeley/ Elmhurst, police said.

All lanes of eastbound 290 were closed at St. Charles Road, and traffic was being diverted.

No injuries were reported, police said.
