Two Rescuers Lost Their Homes Battling CO Wildfires

Jan. 5, 2022
Two Boulder Emergency Squad members were working the frontlines and at the EOC when the Marshall Fire consumed their homes.

Two members of the Boulder Emergency Squad, Lucas H. and Scott MacLaughlin, lost their homes while working during the Marshall Fire.

When MacLaughlin left his house to help with the fire, the house across the street from him was already ablaze.

McLaughlin located a Westminster Fire crew operating in his neighborhood and teamed up with them to help battle the blaze.

When he returned home, his block was in shambles, McLaughlin told KDVR Fox 31.

“When we went down the street pretty much every house was just ash. I mean, there wasn’t anything taller than a mailbox,” McLaughlin told the television station.

Lucas H. worked in the emergency operations center during the fire and was aware that the fire was encroaching on his neighborhood.

Lucas H., along with MacLaughlin, were both left with virtually nothing in the fire's aftermath.

The Boulder Emergency Squad has started a GoFundMe account to assist both members with their recovery efforts.
