On Thursday, March 18, 2004, at 8:25 PM, the Moorestown Fire Department, Stations 311 and 312, along with the Lenola Fire Company Station 313 and Maple Shade Station 101, were dispatched to a structure fire at 47 East Third Street in Moorestown, NJ.
First Fire Department officers arrived within 2 minutes and were confronted with a 100 year old 3-story duplex with heavy smoke showing from Divisions A, B, and C. All occupants of the original fire building were reported out.
Crews made entry into the right side dwelling to search for occupants when confirmation was received that they were all accounted for and the crew backed out.
A crew attempted entry into the original fire dwelling and were forced out when they encountered a flashover on the first floor. Firefighters had only advanced approximately 2 to 3 feet into the dwelling when the first floor flashed. A fireground evacuation signal was sounded at 8:33 PM and the second alarm was struck at 8:35 PM.
