Andover Borough, NJ - At approximately 12:40 am firefighters responded to the Andover Inn at 136 Main Street a.ka. Route 206 for an activated fire alarm.
Upon arrival fire fighters found a working fire with heavy smoke showing. A second alarm was sounded bringing in Andover Township, and Byram Township firefighters.
Soon after a third alarm was called bringing in Sparta, Green Township, and Newton fire departments. Heavy fire spread throughout the three story wood frame structure that houses a newly renovated restaurant and apartments on the second and third floors.
The Inn is said to be well over 100 years old and is a major landmark in the Borough. All of the residents escaped the blaze.
The Lakeland Emergency Squad treated several residents for smoke inhalation, also several firefighters and a police officer were treated at the scene with minor injuries and smoke inhalation.
The cause of the blaze is unknown and is under investigation. The fire took several hours to bring under control.
The building suffered severe damage and the fate of the landmark building is unknown at this time.
