At approximately 11:20 AM Cincinnati Fire Communications dispatch an Entrapment Assignment sending Engine 23, Truck 23, Squad 52, Rescue 38 (ALS), Rescue 2 (EMS Supervisor), and District Chief 1 (Reed) for a reported female construction worked trapped in a wall collapse in a trench at the corner of Madison Road and Woodburn Avenue.
Engine 23 was on the scene immediately, about 500 feet from the site, and confirmed that there was an entrapment.
Truck 3, Trench Rescue Trailer, Truck 14, District Chief 2, Car 3, (Assistance Chief), and the Hamilton County USAR were also dispatched.
The construction worker was in between a new poured concrete wall and an old section of a wall which collapsed pinning her right leg to mid thigh. All during the extraction she was conscious and alert and talking to her rescuers. Cincinnati firefighters and members of the Hamilton County USAR braced, shored, and used air bags to free the worker.
At approximately 1:40 PM she was freed and by 1:50 PM when she was being transported to University Hospital with non-life threatening injures.
This was the second construction site wall collapse entrapment that the Cincinnati Fire Department has responded to within in the past week. The Cincinnati Office of OSHA was on the scene conducting an investigation.
