DC Fire Investigators are trying to determine what cause a fire early this morning that destroyed a house in the Brookland section of the city.
Just before 3:00 AM Wednesday December 6th units from the District of Columbia Fire Department were dispatched to the area of 14th and Jackson Street NE for smoke in the area.
As units were checking the area, Battalion Fire Chief R. Sterne of the First Battalion located a one story house well off in the 3100 block of 16th Street, NE and requested a box alarm assignment and a working fire dispatch to be transmitted.
As firefighters were making an aggressive attack on the fire a practical collapse occurred forcing firefighters from the house.
According to a spokesperson from DC Fire Department, firefighters had to use ladder pipes and hose lines from the outside to attack the fire.
It took firefighters about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control with no injuries reported.
This was the second time in many weeks that firefighters had to extinguish a fire at the 16th Street dwelling.
Fire units stayed on the scene throughout the day with Fire Investigators searching for the cause of the over night fire.
