Partners in Progress: From Homes to High Rises

April 1, 2018
Shane Ray introduces the latest supplement from the National Fire Sprinkler Association—Partners in Progress: From Homes to High Rises.
We are honored to provide this supplement to continue the Partners in Progress program that emphasizes the importance of firefighters and fire sprinklers in the modern built environment and high-risk occupancies.

According to NFPA, approximately 40 people lose their lives in high-rise occupancies annually, and thanks to International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) studies, we know these types of fires are particularly challenging for even the best equipped metropolitan city or county. We also know that nearly 3,000 occupants lose their lives to fires in their homes, which are more and more challenging because of modern contents and the volume of those contents. From rural America to suburban and urban areas, the built environment is changing and so should we in the fire protection industry.

This supplement contains tools that are intended to help, from the fire chief to the firefighter and all ranks in between. The key is that we are all in the business to serve the citizens, building and property owners, and our fellow firefighters. The articles included in this supplement are intended to provide information and motivation to assist in enhancing the service you provide to your community as well as your professional development. And the guides within this project are intended to assist you in advancing building and fire codes and standards within your communities.

The NFSA is committed to providing you with the assistance you need as you attempt to advance the overall fire protection within the communities you serve. Partners in Progress is an expression that built-in fire protection, especially fire sprinklers, and firefighters have to work together to ensure a better outcome for the occupants and firefighters alike. Early warning, early suppression and emergency response are key components to a safer community for all that have to deal with the hazards of fire.

Please utilize these resources, and don’t hesitate to reach out to me or any of our staff at the NFSA. We serve the fire sprinkler industry, which includes you as firefighters, fire officers, fire inspectors, fire marshals, fire chiefs, as well as fire sprinkler contractors, manufacturers, suppliers, designers and all professionals affiliated with improving fire and life safety in the built environment.
