A massive three-alarm fire at a downtown Denver construction site has killed at least one person, injured six others and left one person unaccounted. Three fire trucks were also damaged by intense heat during the fire fight.
According to television station KDVR Fox 31, an apartment building under construction on Emerson Street caught fire at about noon Wednesday and quickly engulfed the structure. Some workers were forced to jump to escape the flames suffering broken bones.
The television station reported six buildings were damaged and one was a total loss. Construction vehicles, three fire trucks and more than 30 vehicles parked in the area were damaged, according to reports.
The rapid growth and immensity of the fire stunned many neighbors with police forcing everyone to back away from the fire, leaving their cars and personal property behind, the television station reported.
Roads in the immediate area were closed overnight to aid with the investigation which could take weeks, the station reported.
