A dog is lucky to be reunited with its owners after it slid down and got stuck in a dam in Spotsylvania County.
According to Deputy Fire Chief Joseph Sposa, the dog was walking along the top edge of the Hunting Run Dam on Spotswood Furnace Road about 12:15 p.m. Tuesday when it “slid part of the way down and was unable to move.”
Members of the Spotsylvania County Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency management responded. Sposa said rope rescue equipment was used to lower firefighters to the animal, which was about 75 feet above the ground.
Seven responders, including two sheriff’s deputies, rescued the dog, he said. It took them about an hour to get the stranded dog off the dam, Sposa said.
“The dog was reunited with its owners happy and unhurt,” he said.
