A Tarrant County Sheriff's deputy was rescued by Fort Worth firefighters after she was swept away by flood waters early Friday. The area received in more than of four inches of rain in just a few hours beginning late Thursday.
Deputy Sheriff Krystal Salazar was called out to assist a 70-year-old woman who caught causing in rising flood waters on Oak Grove Road in southern Tarrant County around 1 a.m.
As she made her way out to the vehicle, the water swept the deputy and the victim away, Fort Worth Fire Department Spokesman Kyle Clay said.
Fort Worth firefighters were summoned to the scene, including two dive teams and rescue boats.
Crews began searching the swollen creek from for the two.
After close to two hours, Salazar was spotted clinging to a tree. Clay said a fire department boat went to her location and brought her to safety.
She was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital by Medstar ambulance to for evaluation.
Crews went into recovery mode to try and find the woman.
