Caney Creek firefighters got a surprise Saturday after they put out a fire in Conroe and found a bedroom filled with hundreds of snakes.

A team of Texas firefighters got a surprise after they put out a fire at a Conroe home and found a bedroom full of snakes.

Caney Creek firefighters were called Saturday morning to the home off Interstate 45 between downtown Conroe and The Woodlands, the Houston Chronicle reported.

The firefighters removed more than 100 snakes from the home, the department wrote on Facebook.

Some lizards perished in the fire, Montgomery County fire chief Raymond Flannelly told the Chronicle. No injuries to humans were reported.

The encounter was "quite the surprise" to the fire crews as well as the snakes, Flannelly told the paper.

Inside, officials found a burned Christmas tree that may have started the fire, though the cause was still undetermined, the Chronicle reported.

The snake rescue was an example of the "things firefighters have to deal with" even when they don't want to, the department wrote in its Facebook post.
