Sterling Introduces New Rope Bags

May 31, 2022
The new Sterling Rope Bags are suitable for all rope-access jobs.

At Sterling, we know your rope and gear is an investment, and in order to help you get the longest life out of your equipment, we’ve developed these three new rope bags. We’ve answered some common questions on why we developed these bags, what they’re used for and what makes them different than other bags available.

What are these bags used for?

These bags were designed to carry rope and gear for rope access, rescue, arbor and any other use that requires minimalist, durable rope bags with a working load limit rating.

What problems do these bags solve?

The primary update for these bags centers around the fact that these are WLL rated to 90 lbs. This allows them to be used for rope access, where the industry is moving toward all items needing a rating to be approved for use. These also have increased durability and abrasion resistance through the use of high denier fabric. We also give more options to carry gear with daisy chains on the outside of the bag as well as a free-standing design for easy flaking of paid out rope.

Are there limitations to their working conditions?

These bags are water resistant but not waterproof. The bags have a grommet in the bottom for drainage and drying. These bags are not arc-flash or fire resistant. They are excellent for use in high abrasion situations like canyoneering, arboriculture and high-angle wilderness and urban rescue.

In what scenarios do these bags excel?

These bags are versatile- you can easily stow multiple bags with different ropes and systems inside. Laying on the side, the nameplate and color is clearly visible on the bottom of the bag, allowing quick ID of the rope/system you need. They fit easily in any arbor or rescue kit.

What sets these bags apart from other products?

These bags have a rated working load limit (WLL) that’s clearly marked on the outside, an external daisy chain, and a nameplate on bottom for quick ID in a prone storage situation. These bags were also built to stand up to abuse and feature extreme durability.

What are common or potential mis-uses?

These bags have a rated working load limit (WLL) that’s clearly marked on the outside, an external daisy chain, and a nameplate on bottom for quick ID in a prone storage situation. These bags were also built to stand up to abuse and feature extreme durability.

WHAT areas on the bags are rated for the WLL?

The handles, daisy chains, bottom grommet and shoulder straps meet the WLL rating.

How do you clean these bags?

You can clean the bags with mild soap and warm water and let them air dry.

Sterling Rope Company

Twenty-five years is a long time, and we have seen a lot of change since we started in November, 1992. There were no smartphones, no Google search, faxes were just becoming the norm, and phone calls and personal visits were how you kept in touch with customers and friends. That is when Sterling was born.

We have been making the highest quality, most innovative static and dynamic rope and cord for decades. We were the first to offer a 48-carrier static sheath construction for greater durability and better handling. We came out with the first 100% Polyester static rope called the HTP, and were the first to offer 100% Technora heat and abrasion resistant ropes to the fire industry; helping FDNY create the first escape kit. Even our accessory cords were constructed differently; utilizing our innovative sewn tacks and eyes. Our ropes and cords are seen on the most technical rescues, in the tallest trees, on remote missions as well as hazardous job sites and are there to get people home safely, day after day.

Throughout our 25-year history, we have grown not only our product line, but our people. We’ve seen young high school and college grads start with us, get married, have kids and send those kids to college. We’ve advanced folks from the production floor to supervisors and managers, from customer service to directing sales, from interns to engineers. Each of us has a passion for creating great product, a cool culture, and servicing wonderful customers. Our communities have grown along with our involvement in them. Our products give our customers the Freedom to Focus, regardless of whether they are working on rope, using rope for safety or rescue purposes, or climbing recreationally. They can focus on the task at hand and not have to worry about their gear.
