New Orleans Fire Department crews successfully pulled off a unique high-angle rescue aboard a cargo ship after a worker plummeted into the vessel's hull.

Approximately eight units and 23 personnel were dispatched to the scene at around 5:40 p.m. Tuesday after a longshoreman had fallen 60 feet into the hull while working aboard the ship.

Crews staged a high-angle rescue scene and rappelled into the hull with spine board and other rescue equipment to lift the victim to the deck. The man, who was conscious and communicated with responders during the entire operation, had luckily only suffered a broken arm.

Fire department personnel had the scene under control about 45 minutes after arrival.
