New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo helped cut a man free and pull him from a crashed vehicle on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway on Monday.
Footage shared by Cuomo’s staff shows Cuomo lifting a man out of the drivers seat of a van that was turned on its side.
According to the tweet, Cuomo was leaving A Better NY event and on his way to the airport on Monday afternoon when he came across the accident. He stopped, cut the man from his seatbelt and helped lift him from the vehicle.
The large catering van had run up on the median, a staffer told CNN. NYPD had not arrived, but Cuomo and the state police he was traveling with rose to the occasion.
The vehicle was precariously balanced, and looked like it was about to tip over.
FDNY said no one at the scene needed to be transported to the hospital.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio called it “a very very admirable thing” for the governor to do and said he too would certainly help out if he ever came across a similar situation.
