New York firefighters rescued a driver who was trapped in the cab of his tractor-trailer for several hours following a rollover accident Tuesday.

The crash happened shortly before 4:30 p.m. along Route 203 in Ghent, HudsonValley360 reports. Authorities said the driver had been hauling a cement deck structure weighing around 36,000 tons when the right tires of the 18-wheeler left the road as he was taking a corner, flipping the vehicle on its roof.

Crews from Chatham, Valatie, Ghent and other fire departments responded to the incident and worked for several hours to free the driver from the rig. He was then airlifted to Albany Medical Center with injuries to his legs.

The 29-year-old driver, who was from Dalton, MA, had been hauling the cement deck structure to be used in parking garages in New York City, according to HudsonValley360.
