Rescue divers searched a Jupiter canal Sunday for the occupants of a vehicle submerged in the water near I-95 and found one person, Palm Beach Fire Rescue said.

Divers located a man in distress and brought him to the canal banks, where paramedics were standing by to transport him to the hospital, said Capt. Albert Borroto, Fire Rescue spokesman.

The incident happened near the southbound highway exit ramp at Indiantown Road, where first responders arrived shortly after 1 p.m.

"First arriving firefighters reported a large crowd of bystanders near the bank and a fully submerged vehicle," Borroto said via email. "Rescue divers immediately went into the water to search if the vehicle had anyone inside."

Borroto said the vehicle and the area were searched, but no additional victims were located.
