Car Falls 60 Feet from Roadway into CT River

The driver of the vehicle that fell about 60 feet into the Norwalk River was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

NORWALK — A car that veered off a Merritt Parkway exit ended up in the Norwalk River early Saturday morning, according to Deputy Fire Chief Edward Prescott.

Prescott, who estimated the fall to be about 60 feet, said the driver of the car was not seriously injured.

Firefighters got a call at 4:28 a.m. about the car in the river, between the exit 40A ramp and the 1 Glover Ave. condominiums.

“When firefighters arrived with hospital paramedics and State Police, the car, a Hyundai Sedan was found on its side, in a foot of water,” Prescott.said.

“The driver, a woman in her 20s, walked up to firefighters and said she was the only one in the car,” Prescott said.

The driver, who was not identified, was taken to Norwalk Hospital to be examined for any injuries.

Prescott said the “the car appears to have left the southbound exit ramp to Main Avenue and traveled sixty feet to the river below.”

State Police made arrangements to remove the car from the river.
