Man Rescued from Submerged Truck by Bolivar, Canton, OH, Firefighters

The crew was returning from a hospital when they were flagged down by a motorist on the Canton highway.

They were at the right place at the right time.

And, that made all the difference for a 28-year-old man trapped in his truck in a creek.

The firefighters from Bolivar and Canton were returning from a hospital when they were flagged down by a motorist who told them a truck had just crossed the median and gone into the river, WKYC reported.

Bolivar irefighters Sarah Valentine and Ashley Curtner, along with Canton firefighter Kyle Gallagher, climbed over a fence, went into the creek and managed to free the injuried driver from the truck.

He didn't have a pulse when they retrieved him. He was transported to a local hospital, and later transferred to another for further treament. He was listed in critical condition.

Canton Fire Chief Steve Henderson praised the rescue effort: "Every day we do things that we do every day, but every day we don't do extraordinary things. What that crew did and the teamwork — it was extraordinary. They did a phenomenal job."

Bystanders also were lauded for stopping and alerting the crew about the crash.
