Nov. 17--SEATTLE -- A firefighter sustained minor injuries while battling a fire at a Capitol Hill Mexican restaurant Thursday morning.

When crews arrived at Galerias restaurant near the corner of Broadway and Mercer Street, flames were shooting through the roof, Seattle Fire Department spokesperson Kyle Moore said.

Fire crews cut holes in the roof for ventilation but getting it under control proved difficult.

"It was a very stubborn fire with flames coming up," Moore said. "Apparently this building had several add-ons. There was some void space there and this fire was burning really hot."

After about 40 minutes, the fire was brought under control.

One firefighter suffered an injury to his knee. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center where he was treated and later released.

The building was empty at the time of the fire and nobody was injured. The cause is under investigation.
