Ind. Firefighters 'Fortunate' in Tanker Rollover

Three Madison Township firefighters were injured when their tanker truck rolled over this morning while responding to a house fire, according to WSBT-TV.

The truck carrying 3,500 gallons of water was en route to a blaze reported in the 68000 block of Gumwood Road at when it flipped at Elm and Shively roads at approximately 9:40 a.m.

Three firefighters in the truck were all wearing seatbelts and received minor injuries.

"They're very fortunate," Penn Township Battalion Chief Brian Mayo told the news station.

He believes the tank took the brunt of the weight of the crash and likely saved the firefighters' lives. The tanker's cab was crushed and the truck considered a total loss.

The house fire they were driving to was quickly brought under control, according to the report.
