Fewer Fires Then Expected After W.Va. Football Game

Following last year's game, 40 fires were reported in the Sunnyside area.

Nov. 10--Only a handful of fires were reported in Sunnyside as the WVU football game came to an end and in the minutes following the loss.

One rubbish fire was reported in Sunnyside during overtime of WVU's loss to Texas on Saturday night. There were only a few reported in the minutes following the defeat.

According to police radio traffic, there were reports of some people in Sunnyside breaking bottles in the street immediately after the game ended.

Following last year's October win at Texas, 40 fires were reported in the Sunnyside area. Police also reported being hit with rocks and bottles as they tried to control the scene.

A crowd of about 1,000 people were in the heavily, WVU-student populated neighborhood in the hours following that game.
