Evesham Fire-Rescue firefighters are mourning the loss of a longtime volunteer who died Monday after responding to two calls.
Joseph Bichler, 66, responded to the station on Oct. 30 for two emergencies at 1:02 p.m. and again at 11:40 p.m.
He helped place the apparatus in service after both calls, the U.S. Fire Administration reported.
Bichler collapsed in his driveway on Oct. 31, suffering a cardiac arrest.
Evesham firefighters and paramedics responded and performed CPR while he was transported to the hospital where he died.
"Joe was a very active volunteer with EFD for more than 33 years and continued to ride weekly duty crews on either the fire or EMS apparatus," the department said in a Facebook posted. "Over the years Joe also mentored many members, helping to sustain volunteerism within our organization. Joe's presence will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends, as well as with his EFD family, during this difficult time.
