A Santa Fe firefighter stopped a man who was stealing his firefighting gear from his car Monday night.

Miguel Rivas woke up and saw Derek Martinez wearing his fire department jacket and taking other equipment from the vehicle in his driveway.

Rivas used his gun and two dogs to keep Martinez at the scene until police arrived, according to KQRE.

Police said Martinez, 28, has been arrested 10 times this year and has a long rap sheet.
