The man was riding on the back of the FDNY ambulance moments before he jumped into the cab and struck two EMTs.

An FDNY EMT was killed and another was injured after they were struck by their own ambulance after it was stolen Thursday night.

The incident happened around 7 p.m. in the Soundview neighborhood.

Witnesses told police that a man was riding on the back of the ambulance when the crew stopped to get the man off the vehicle, according to the New York Post.

The man jumped into the ambulance and drove forward, striking an EMS worker. He then put the ambulance into reverse and backed over EMT Yadira Arroyo before speeding around the corner where he crashed into a parked vehicle.

“I heard somebody crying and then I heard, ‘Boom!’ like an accident,” Virgilio German said of the chaotic scene. “There were two paramedics. They were down on the floor. She wasn’t moving.”

Arroyo and her partner were rushed to Jacobi Medical Center where she died of her injuries.

Arroyo, 44, who served with FDNY for 14 years, leaves behind five children. She is the eighth member of FDNY EMS to die in the line of duty.

The second EMS worker suffered cuts and bruises, according to the newspaper.

A passing police officer who witnessed the incident apprehended the man with the help of bystanders.
