FL Firefighters Shot at By Man Who Suspected Burglary

The disabled man thought his home was being burglarized when he opened fire on Miami-Dade firefighters.

A disable man who uses a wheelchair to get around shot at firefighters as they were searching an apartment building during a fire Wednesday.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue crews were going door-to-door at a North Miami apartment building to make sure residents escaped the 3 a.m.

The man, who thought someone was trying to burglarize his home, open fire, according to Local10.com

"We knocked, identified ourselves and, even if there's no answer, we forced the doors, causing some damage to the doors, just to make sure that there was nobody inside of the structures," Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Lt. Felipe Lay told the television station.

Firefighters helped several residents escape from the smoke-filled building.

The firefighters were uninjured.

Officials don't expect that any charged will be filed against the shooter.
