A Dallas Fire-Rescue firefighter paramedic is recovering after a pickup truck collided with the ambulance he was in over the weekend.

Nicholas Granados, 29, suffered a collapsed lung, fractured rib and other injuries from the accident, the department said in a statement Monday. He was taken to Dallas Methodist Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

The ambulance's driver, who didn't want to be identified, suffered minor injuries. The crash, however, killed the driver of the pickup, according to the department.

"Despite the challenging road ahead, he is thankful to be in the company of his immediate family, friends and loved ones to help him along, said a statement by Dallas Fire-Rescue concerning Ganados. "He also wishes to thank everyone who has reached out to him with their well wishes, thoughts and prayers."

The accident happened at around 3:15 a.m. Sunday when the truck hit the ambulance on its passenger side.
