Safety Stand Down 2020 Focuses on Roadway Responses

March 4, 2020
The IAFC Safety, Health and Survival Section along with the NVFC and NFPA have announced roadway safety as the theme for the 2020 Safety Stand Down from June 14-20.

The International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) Safety, Health and Survival Section, along with the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) have announced roadway safety as the focus for this year's Safety Stand Down.

Operating on roadways during an emergency is one of the most treacherous threats first responders encounter on the job. To help mitigate the risk, the theme of the 2020 Safety Stand Down campaign is “Building a Superhighway to Safety – Protecting our Responders on Roadways.”

The IAFC, NVFC and NFPA are advising agencies to suspend all non-emergency activities during the week of June 14-20 to call attention to the hazards that responders face while serving the public on roadways and to focus on training and education.

"The 2020 campaign offers information and insights that will help firefighters, fire officers, and policy makers to reduce loss in the fire service."

An entire week has been scheduled to help ensure that all shifts and personnel can participate and access the information, training and videos that will be made available at www.safetystanddown.org.
