Man Charged with Murder in Fatal Shooting of MS Firefighter

Police believe the 40-year-old man accused of shooting and killing Jackson Fire Lt. Yancy Williams in a gas station parking lot was related to the slain firefighter.

A man has been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal shooting of an off-duty Mississippi firefighter over the weekend.

Jackson Fire Lt. Yancy Williams was shot and killed in a gas station parking lot late Sunday. Williams had been with the department since 2013, he recently was promoted to lieutenant.

According to an online post by Jackson police, Terrance Watts, 40, surrendered to Flora police Monday. He was transferred to Jackson police custody and was charged with murder.

Investigators believe Williams was related to Watts, police said without specifying how.
