FL Firefighter Struck has Long Road to Recovery

South Walton's fire union created a GoFundMe to help firefighter Noah Collins recover after he was struck and critically injured on his was to work.

The South Walton fire union has set up a GoFundMe for the firefighter who was struck by a vehicle on his way to work last week.

South Walton Fire District Firefighter/EMT Noah Collins has a long road to recovery and the South Walton Professional Firefighters Local 3516 stepped up to help their brother.

Collins was driving to work on Nov. 29 when his vehicle was rear-ended. He exited his vehicle and was checking on the occupants of the other vehicle when another vehicle struck him, leaving him seriously injured.

He remains in stable condition and is in the early stages of his long-term recovery, Public Information Officer Mackenzie McClintock told Firehouse.com.

"We have firefighters and personnel on standby at the hospital each day to support the family, whether that be bringing them lunch or giving them some company," McClintlock said. "It’s important to us that the SWFD presence is strong at the hospital!"

Collins joined the department in early summer 2021 and was worked part-time for district prior to becoming a firefighter.

"Everyone in the community is rooting for Noah," said McClintlock. "Any time you saw Noah around the fire station, he had a smile on his face and you could tell he was living his dream as a South Walton firefighter. We are all anxiously awaiting his recovery and we know his fighting spirit is serving him well each day of the process."
