A Highland Hose Company firefighter was freed by colleagues after his feet were trapped by a moving aerial ladder at a Tarentum duplex fire.

A firefighter was injured Monday when his feet were trapped by a moving aerial ladder at Tarentum house fire.

The fire appeared to under a porch on the two-story duplex and it quickly spread to the second floor, engulfing the structure which lead to a significant collapse.

Highland Hose Company firefighter Richard Schuller's feet became trapped while the aerial operated, according to the Tribune-Review.

With the ladder still extended and elevated, a group of firefighters helped free Schuller by cutting open his boots and removing his socks to free his feet while crews continued to battle the fire below.

In video captured by WPXI, four firefighters surrounded Schuller while another held an IV that was administered to him.

Brittany Schuller, the firefighter's cousin called the scene "horrifying," saying she could hear him screaming from a “pretty good distance.”

Schuller, 22, was placed on a Stokes basket and carried down the ladder.  As crews moved him to the ambulance, he gave two thumbs up.

According to WPXI, he suffered minor injuries.

Officials said the home was gutted and most of the structure collapsed, leaving numerous residents homeless.
