CA Fire Chief Carjacked in Marked Vehicle

The fire chief of the Marina Fire Department was carjacked after he came across a crash and stopped to render assistance.

Marina Fire Chief Doug McCoun was carjacked in his department vehicle when he stopped at a multi-vehicle accident while returning from a fire call in Marina.

McCoun said he turned on his emergency lights and called in to report the crash. That's the moment he said a man he thought needed help approached him and "unbuckled me and pulled me out of the car,” KSBW reported.

Officials with the California State Highway Patrol identified the carjacker as Kevin Peck, 43, from Sacramento who drove off with the chief’s clearly marked vehicle.

According to officials, the Aston Martin driven by Peck involved in the accident was stolen from a home in Carmel.

The Marina fire vehicle was recovered in the Carmel Highlands Saturday by the Monterey County Sheriff's Office.

They responded to the area after a resident reported seeing a shirtless man, who deputies later identified as Peck, inside her home, according to KSBW. Peck was arrested and booked into the Monterey County Jail.
