Retired Cambridge Fire Chief John Trumble was killed and over a dozen firefighters injured while battling wildfires in Nebraska.
Retired Cambridge Fire Chief John Trumble, 66, was killed helping at a wildfire in southwest Nebraska when his vehicle left the road in heavy smoke and dust conditions.
Trumble was killed at the Road 702 Fire when fire overran his vehicle after leaving the road, according to a report by Weather.com.
Five other firefighters were injured battling the same blaze, which destroyed a half-dozen homes.
At least 10 other firefighters have been injured battling wildfires over the last month as fire crews have been battling multiple fires in the state as a result of the dry and windy conditions.
