Los Angeles County Firefighter/Paramedic Jerry W. Guzman died on Aug. 15.
Firefighters are mourning the loss of the active-duty death of a Los Angeles County firefighter/paramedic.
The department announced that Jerry W. Guzman passed away Friday, Aug. 15.
The 23-year member of the department was assigned to Los Angeles County Fire Station 32 in Azusa.
"We extend our deepest prayers and condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of FFPM Guzman," the department shared in a social media post.
Fire Chief Anthony C. Marrone activated the fire department's peer support team, chaplains, and others to help member of the department after the news of Guzman's passing.
Peter Matthews is the conference director and editor-in-chief of Firehouse. He has worked at Firehouse since 1999, serving in various roles on both Firehouse Magazine and Firehouse.com staffs. He completed an internship with the Rochester, NY, Fire Department and served with fire departments in Rush, NY, and Laurel, MD, and was a lieutenant with the Glenwood Fire Company in Glenwood, NY. Matthews served as photographer for the St. Paul, MN, Fire Department and currently is a photographer for the Fort Worth, TX, Fire Department.
