NJ Leather Lid Returns Home after 100 Years
An almost century-old leather fire helmet has made its way back to Long Valley Fire Co. No. 1 after a long absence.
Firefighters were excited to receive this piece of history found on eBay that is estimated to be from 1920.
"Once we get the helmet examined to determine age and manufacturer, it will proudly be displayed in our station," the fire company shared.
Russ Dore, a fire company member, told Long Valley, NJ Patch that the fire company found the helmet for sale in Pennsylvania for $760, plus shipping.
Members of the fire company have not been able to determine exactly who the helmet belonged to.
They estimate it’s from the 1920s because of changes in the department's name over the years.
The department hopes they are able to determine who manufactured and its true age.
