Orlando FF Gives Facepiece to Victim in Fiery Crash

May 19, 2022
When Orlando firefighters found an overturned vehicle on fire with entrapment, Lt. Bassel Ibrahim gave the victim his SCBA facepiece.

An Orlando fire lieutenant gave his facepiece to a woman trapped inside a burning vehicle Monday night.

Firefighters found the vehicle upside down and on fire with a passenger trapped when Lt. Bassel Ibrahim crawled in and gave his SCBA facepiece to the woman as crews worked to extricate her.

"She was located on the roof backward, stuck between the back headrest and the roof, so the car was pretty damaged," Ibrahim told WESH.com. The car was also pinned against a tree with gasoline leaking.

"I don't think she had much time," Ibrahim recalled. "Honestly, less than a minute for sure. Nobody can really breathe that much smoke for a long period of time, so I was really glad we were where we were at the time that we were.

The crew used foam to douse the burning gasoline, and extricated the woman.

Officials did not elaborate on the extent of the injuries.
