A North Carolina firefighter was struck by a pickup truck after trying to help a driver who appeared unconscious Wednesday.
Brendletown Fire Lt. Ray Thomas approached a truck that was parked at the fire station in Burke County, WSOC-TV reports. The driver appeared to be either sleeping or unconscious, and Thomas wanted to see if he needed help.
As Thomas approached, the driver put the truck in reverse and struck the firefighter. The driver then left the scene, but he was later caught by police.
“You know, we’re just trying to help people,” Thomas told WSOC. “And people … some people just don’t want help.”
The driver is being charged in the incident. But he isn't remorseful.
“I think he caused me a problem,” the driver told WSOC. ”I was minding my business.”
Thomas said he was all right following the incident.
